Golden Ears Park
One of the best things Maple Ridge has to offer is Golden Ears Park. This Provincial Park is very popular with families and outdoorman. You can go fishing for rainbow trout, take a swim, or try wind-surfing or boating on the park’s Alouette Lake. Cyclists and hikers relish the numerous trails, like the 20 km/12 mi round-trip Alouette Mountain Trail. Or stay overnight at one of 400 campsites in the park. For some it’s a day trip from Vancouver but for the lucky ones who live here it’s just a couple of minutes away.
School District #42, which serves both Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, is one of the fastest growing School Districts in British Columbia. There are over 15,000 students in the School District, with 25 elementary schools, five secondary schools, and two alternate schools. There are a variety of languages at both the elementary and secondary levels like:
- French Immersion instruction is offered to students at seven schools in the District. The District offers both Early Immersion, (beginning in Kindergarten) and Late Immersion (starting in grade six).
- Japanese, Spanish, and German are offered by certain schools in the District, and at various levels of instruction.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is available for children whose mother tongue is not English and who require assistance to reach fluency.
There are also several private schools in District #42. These include Meadow Ridge School, MRCS, a K-12 independent Christian school, and St. Patrick’s, a Catholic school. These are not operated by the school district, but still meet the British Columbia Ministry of Education standards.
