This community lies 40 kilometers east of Vancouver and is located next to Maple Ridge. Pitt Meadows is also a member of the Municipality of Metro Vancouver (formerly Greater Vancouver Regional District).

Pitt Lake

Pitt Lake is the second-largest lake in the Lower Mainland and is also one of the world’s largest tidal lakes. It is about 53.5 square kilometres in area and is about 20 km long and about 4.5 km wide at its widest. The lake is popular with boaters and canoeists and is considered one of BC’s best fly-fishing rivers and of it’s best steelhead streams.

Education

School District #42, which serves both Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, is one of the fastest growing School Districts in British Columbia. There are over 15,000 students in the School District, with 25 elementary schools, five secondary schools, and two alternate schools. There are a variety of languages at both the elementary and secondary levels like:

  • French Immersion instruction is offered to students at seven schools in the District. The District offers both Early Immersion, (beginning in Kindergarten) and Late Immersion (starting in grade six).
  • Japanese, Spanish, and German are offered by certain schools in the District, and at various levels of instruction.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is available for children whose mother tongue is not English and who require assistance to reach fluency.
  • There are also several private schools in District #42. These include Meadow Ridge School, MRCS, a K-12 independent Christian school, and St. Patrick’s, a Catholic school. These are not operated by the school district, but still meet the British Columbia Ministry of Education standards.
